Mapper - Time plots - velocity vs time
-
The time plots of velocity using Mapper gives maximum velocities that are much lower than the maximum velocities indicated in the grid element maximum velocity plots and in the maximum velocity contours. Could you provide some guidance to fix this problem? I would like to get a time plot of velocities where the maximum value in the time plot is the same as that indicated in the contours/grid element plots.

The time plots give velocity for a specific time. The maximum velocity plot is not dependent on time but rather the single largest velocity that was recorded during the entire simulation. So if you have surging you might see a very high and unreasonable velocity but it doesn't necessarily correspond to the maximum discharge of the hydrograph. If you check the file veltimefp.out or veltimec.out you can see a list of velocities that are sorted high to low.

I cheked the veltimepf and veltimec files. I could not decide from the data whether there is any sudden model surge. I am sending through e-mail those files, and also two graphs that I generated using the CROSSQ data and the Velocity Time graph data. These graphs show nearly same trend; but the magnitudes are different. No instantaneous surges are evident. Then why should the two graphs give different values at a given instant?
The CROSSQ maxium velocity agrees with the Grid Velocity Map, but differs from the Velocity Time graph. The flow depths indicated by the Grid Flow Depth Map and the Depth Time graph show good agreement. The two graphs that I have enclosed are based on the flow depths assocated with the Depth Time graph.
