Varying grid cell size within an existing model domain
-
I have a model with 100 ft x 100 ft size grid cell. Is it possible to change the grid size of the model (to 50 ft x 50 ft) over a selected area within the model domain so that the flow in that area can be modeled in more detail.
The model has several inflow hydrographs input at different locations. Is it possible to reduce the grid size of the entire domain keeping the existing hydrograph inputs in position (ie. without re-entering the input hydrograph data?

At this point, it is not possible to change the grid size of the model over a selected area. This feature is coming in version 2011. At this point you are not able to create a new grid system and directly import the inflow, floodplain or channel features from an existing model. This is also coming in version 2011.
Now you can create a smaller grid system and use your old system as a manual template. For example, you can use your same inflow.dat file but just update the grid elements. Channel data has to be rebuilt from scratch but you can reserve your xsec.dat file by deleting all but the surveyed cross sections.
Features like buildings, infiltration and Manning s n values are all automatically calculated from shape files now. Levees are also automatically create from crest elevation point file. Streets, channels and levees can now be created with a polyline so that will save you time when updating an old grid system.
Version 2011 will allow you to change the grid element size for the entire grid system or for just a portion of the the grid system. The features like channels and levees will all be geo-referenced and updating models will be much faster.
Version 2011 will also have several new features such as embedded culvert equations and a XP-SWMM storm drain interface that will calculate storm drain flow at the FLO-2D runtime.
